Some Good Hip Hop in a world full of “Bad Hip Hop”…

We are blessed to have been able to listen to music from the likes of  A Tribe Called Quest, The HieroglyphicsPharoahe MonchWu-TangJ Dilla (R.I.P) and such other gems. These acts have (hopefully) help formed the everyday hiphopper’s Hip Hop sensibilities and taste. However, we are all aware of all the recent unlistenable dross that’s currently out thereon the radio, TV and in clubs.

Well there’s always a shining light amongst dark clouds. I’ve recently picked up 2 albums that have made my ears tingle once again.

The first album is BlakRoc, a collaborative effort by blues duo The Black Keys and several Hip Hop and R&B artists. The project has been overseen by Damon Dash, co-founder and former owner of Roc-A-Fella Records. (Him and Jay-Z ain’t exactly chums anymore).

Artists include RaekwonRZA and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang ClanJim Jones and NOE of ByrdGang, Mos Def, singer Nicole WrayPharoahe MonchLudacris, Billy Danze of M.O.P., and Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest. With the instrumental drive of  The Black Keys and the lyrical prowess gracing the list, this paticular project is an absolute delight for those who want something different from the normal Top 40 sounds. I personally loved it.

The 2nd album is entitled In Search Of Stoney Jackson by Strong Arm Steady & Madlib. It’s a soul filled musical journey that harkens back to the Utopian days when a single producer and emcee/group combined to make music; good music. With Madlib’s MAAAAD skills at crafting beats that are unique enough to be a stand alone project, but each retains a subliminal signature informing the listener of the Invazion and  SAS plus the (many) Stoney guest stars sound very much at home over the production. All in all a fucking good album!

Recommended listening y’all for proper hiphop heads. Massive big ups to my man, Bedsty’s very own son Eric Foenander for hooking a brotha up!!! FatBoys still alive!!!!
