Apparel design too utilitarian to copyright

Here’s an interesting situation in another creative industry I’ve just found out – you cannot copyright apparel design. Yes you can trademark brands and patent invented processes, but not how apparels are designed. Imagine if someone were allowed to patent the windsor knot… I’d quit making music and hold office in Raffles Place courtyard collecting royalties for the chap who actually patented it – and myself patent that process of collection.
