Good Times: March 4th 2011
February 12th, 2011Time : Friday, March 4 at 9:00pm – March 5 at 3:00am
Location : Blu Jaz Cafe, Level 2 // No. 11, Bali Lane (Near Arab Street), Singapore
Good Times took a break in February to make way for the CNY festivities. But don’t fret. We’re returning on March 4th with a big bad lineup of local selectors.
DJ Kentaro from the mighty Mugic Soundsystem will be kicking things off with some durrty disco, soul and all that good stuff.
Then it’s DJ Nomsta with his brand of four to the floor goodness.
Lastly it’s DJ Zushan at the controls, so expect a bass heavy mix of Dubstep, UK Funky and Hip-Hop till the lights go on.
As always, there’s no dress code and entry is absolutely FREE.

Bilal’s “Levels” MV
February 12th, 2011Been snooping around at videos when I saw Tim De Cotta from the band SIXX share this on his facebook.
Another Flying Lotus directed music video. This time, Bilal gets the trippy treatment.
Enjoy.
Good Times NYE 2010
December 22nd, 2010We’re celebrating the New Year with a big ass party. So big, we’re taking over all three floors of Blujaz with a massive line-up of acts.
Starting from the top floor, we’ve got superband Sixx dropping their infectious brand of live hip-hop, with DJs Koflow, Krumbs and Submerge on deck duties till the early morn.
On the 2nd floor, we’ve got local bass music stalwarts Aresha, Vortex and Syafii at the controls, with four to the floor support by DJ Headline. Expect a mix of Hip-Hop, House, D&B, Jungle, Dubstep and everything in between.
If you’re into smoother sounds, head on to the first floor where DJs Motif and Garuda will be spinning a mix of funk, soul and hip-hop.
Entry is just $15 and it comes with a free housepour drink, so a ticket practically pays for itself. That’s a killer deal for three floors of music and mayhem, so git on down to Blujaz this NYE for a dose of Good Times.
UPDATE: DJs Koflow, Submerge, Motif and Garuda have been added to the lineup. Boh!

Tickets are available at the door, while stocks last.

Does a platinum album = to success?
August 31st, 2010The easy answer is a definate yes – specially since so very few recording artists push over a million records per album. That number is dwindling even further.
But it does not mean the opposite is true. Not having a platinum album doesn’t mean no success – because we should all agree, who buys album these days – very few of us, but we do consume ALOT OF MUSIC. Some might even suggest more than we previously have in our lifetimes – and other’s say maybe too much.
Take this article by Joseph Plambeck for St. Louis Today, who points out that dear ol’ Taio Cruz is #54 on the Billboard Charts, but have sold 4.9 million singles on iTunes, and garnered 49 million views on YouTube. Tell me that isn’t success? Or even Snoop Dogg or The Roots – both album sales are just plain stupid. Well, Snoop Dogg’s album was alright – but The Roots was yoooooooooo!!!!!!
Nonetheless, we cannot write them off as unsuccessful – and worse still, write a new artist off just because the album isn’t doing as well. Music does not equal to record sales. Record sales should – and is now – be looked at just a portion of the reach, popularity, viewership, consumption…you name it!
And so a new chart is in town.
The Ultimate Chart is the first and only chart that looks at all of the ways in which music is popular, online and off. The first published chart, the Ultimate 100, is available now.
