The days counted down quick – but still managed the time to meet MC Dan Stezo (big ups to Kiat for the connect) and I even got into a impromptu session with Malaysia’s Joe Flizzow at an open mic night called “Live on the Low” in Amsterdam, Netherlands – hosted by MC Complex! Shout out for the dope event!
And by the way the band was off the hook – and Ziggy Recado had his new album’s listening session there too and put on a great show too. What a night.
And so with one day left, we put in some tourist time, visiting the Van Gogh Museum and snuck in a little shopping with a comfy lunch with a decent view of the main shopping district.
Its time to wind up the amazing 6 days in the Netherlands.

We made it out to Amsterdam on Day 4 by train to get settled in, and gunning straight for the studio with Brooklyn Bedstuy MC, Spec Boogie. We made it to Club Jaco with the Prince of Beatz hosting us to some dope beats.

Day 2: Kevin Lester @ New Skool Rules

We got to Day 2 of the conference. The event really seem to take life and hit in to top gear with performances by our new boys Nefew from Switzerland. I really like his take on music, the beats were organic and dirty. Stuff you could really go “uuuugh” too. We caught more talks from the star studed panels. The most relevant to us was “How To Get Bookings for International Tours and Events”. It helped to put things into perspective for us but the best time spent was the after panel talks. Everyone attending had at least 3-5 mins of personal chat time with the panel members. We were soldiers, making sure we represented Singapore music, leaving no one empty handed without a “Let’s Talk About Kevin Lester” CD.
The after parties proved really valuable too. It was that cut loose time that we got into deeper conversation just about where music is going. A little surreal at times chilling with Greg from AllHIPHOP.com, DK (The Kennedy Administration), CL from Digiwaxx Media, Syaheed, DJ Krumbs and me till 6am outside the Hotel Lobby. If there’s one thing we learnt so far, it was that we had to build relationships. What a blessing it is to be here.

Day 1: Kevin Lester @ New Skool Rules (Part 2)
April 3rd, 2011Day 1: Kevin Lester @ New Skool Rules (Part 2)
The day took off really quickly once we were at Factory 010 where the conference is being held. With up to 3 panels running in tandem, it was a day of picking the right one that suited each of us best. Delaying a much needed lunch, we sat in at the UK panel on how to break into the UK market. The panel consisted of industry professionals from BBC, MTV, The Orchard, BBC Radio, Flavour Magazine and a SEO who use to set up Myspace UK (when myspace was cool).
I managed to ask some question to the panel, given that ROCKSTAR was picked by the UK Guardian as one of its top 35 songs from around the world in January, what would be our next steps. So just maybe, you’ll see me in the UK more. Fingers crossed.
It was lunch right across the street at a Egyptian restaurant where we dined to Kapsalon. Just imagine, melted cheese over roasted lamb/chicken on a bed of fries with a delicious sauce and vegetables over the top. Oh yeaaaaah. Check the video… you have to see it!
It was back at the conference afterwards, where Syaheed was on the expert panel on how to present oneself best to the movers and shakers in the industry. Topics include image, presentation, best practices and advise on getting noticed. Alongside him were Deshawn “DK” Kennedy, E-One, Preston Green and Mizz Nina.
After which, we caught more showcases in the main hall where I will also perform at 5.50pm on April 3rd Sunday, Rotterdam time (approximately 1.50am Singapore time).
We proceeded to the after party, hosted by Drumma Boy. It featured performances by Mizz Nina, Rock City among others and saw DJ Latin Prince, DJ Trauma, DJ Kenny G rock the 1s and 2s. It picked up late, but it was a dope party. Great to see everyone getting down to the best mix of old school tunes and all that cool new stuff. Everybody brought their own style 100%.
We’re looking forward to Day 2. Its been big so far!

Day 1: Kevin Lester @ New Skool Rules
April 1st, 2011Day 1: New Skool Rules @ Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Here’s a hello from Rotterdam just as I’ve arrived on a 5.50am flight, having a cup of coffee before meeting up with DJ Krumbs at the airport in Amsterdam. We then jumped into a 7.43am train to Rotterdam and checked straight in.
Keep clued in on Youtube as we’ll be posting LOTS of interesting nuggets from the New Skool Rules conference over the next three days.

SIXX: A live DVD Recording @ TAB

So, as you might have already heard, Sixx will be releasing our E.P soon, but hey before that, we thought it might be cool to throw a listening party/live dvd recording & invite everyone to be a part of it.
Here’s how it goes, the entire night will be documented and everyone who’s present at the event will be mailed an exclusive hand signed DVD from the band. The first 50 who are listed as attending under our attendance list and …of course are present on the actual night will also get our E.P absolutely free! There will be a photobooth as you enter for a photo collage that will be part of our album sleeve, & everyone gets a chance to vote for the name of our E.P at the end of our 60min set!
We want your opinion, your voice to be heard as we embark on this adventure. The Iluma AIR Project by ClogTwo
July 6th, 2010There could be many ways to go about introducing this video, hyping it up with loud shout outs that he’s my boy but none more so than merely how brilliant and entertaining it is. The work documented was done by arguably to me if not THE best, he’s one of the best; ClogTwo. I’m not too sure about the mathematics of the piece or anything about the event but if you ever come across a flyer or FB invite with his name on it be sure to attend! I’m soooo gonna be there.
ClogTwo and I spoke briefly about a collaboration for a song on my mixtape too. If it comes to fruition, watch for it and be sure that together it’s going to be a piece to remember. In the meantime, spread the word, like the video, comment and share this masterpiece that is The Shoppers Nebula.
I’ve seen this video about 72 times. True story.
